This T-shirt is made from "BANANA CLOTH," a fabric made by blending discarded banana stalks with cotton and spinning them into yarn.
The thick thread made from banana fiber has the same strength as linen, and has a thick, smooth texture that feels similar to linen.
The front print is a simple yet impactful design featuring the "GOODFOOD" logo and three stars. Three stars is considered the perfect score in the food industry, but at GOODFOOD it also implies that all necessities of life - food, clothing and shelter - shine brightly.
* What is BANANA CLOTH?
Once a banana is harvested, it will not bear fruit again, and the stems are cut down to grow the next banana. The cut stems are usually either incinerated or left as they are. (It is said that while the annual harvest of bananas in the world is 150 million tons, as much as 1 billion tons is wasted.)
If they were incinerated, it would cause environmental damage, such as carbon dioxide emissions, and the stems that are left to rot would give off a foul odor and pollute groundwater and soil.
So, with the idea of somehow making use of bananas, a large part of which goes to waste, a yarn made from upcycled banana stalks was developed, and the fabric made from this is BANANA CLOTH. It is said that only 2-3% of the waste can be used to make yarn, but based on estimates, it is believed that approximately 20 million tons of waste could be harvested annually. It is hoped that this will become a commonly used material as a natural fiber second only to cotton, which is produced at approximately 26 million tons per year.
